There is much to like about hMailServer: it’s easy to get up and running, it lets you play with lots of settings, it offers protection against spam and viruses, it provides support for SMTP, POP3 and IMAP protocols, it can be integrated into existing mail systems, it uses SSL encryption, it is offered for the great price of free, and more. Trust me when I say that hMailServer is a properly goo email server for Windows.

Speaking about Windows, it will be a piece of cake to install hMailServer on a Windows PC. A simple setup wizard will guide you and will help you do a Full or a Custom Installation. I have to bring up a couple of things: the setup wizard will have you choose a database server type (use the built-in database engine or use an external database engine); a user with admin rights will be created and you will have to provide a password for it.

The hMailServer Administrator will help you add and manage a list of domains, tweak the antispam and antivirus features, add custom rules, and play with many, many other settings and options that govern how hMailServer works.

The hMailServer Database Setup wizard will help you create a new hMailServer database and select a new hMailServer default database.
The Data Directory Synchronizer utility will help you sync your hMailServer data directory with your hMailServer database.

hMailServer is free and open source software released under a GNU GPL (General Public License).
Useful documentation to help you install, configure, and use hMailServer is available online.

You’re very well advised to get the free and feature-rich hMailServer. It is a very useful email server for Windows!

Pros

A straightforward setup wizard will help you install hMailServer. You can use the built-in database engine or an external engine of your choice. Access to the hMailServer Administrator, Database Setup, and Data Directory Synchronizer is password protected. There are tons of settings to play with. hMailServer can be integrated into existing email systems. hMailServer is free and open source.

Cons

None that I could think of.
